Marianne Jean-Baptiste (born April 26, 1967) is an English actress, singer-songwriter, composer and director, who portrayed Bethany Mayfair in NBC's Blindspot in Season 1.

Personal Life[]

Jean-Baptiste was born in London to a mother from Antigua and a father from Saint Lucia, growing up in Peckham.[1] She was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and performed at the Royal National Theatre. She was nominated for a 1994 Ian Charleson Award for her performance in Measure For Measure with Cheek by Jowl. In 1997, she married Evan Williams, whom she has two children with.

Career[]

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Marianne received Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA nominations for her astonishing feature-film debut in Mike Leigh's "Secrets and Lies."

A writer and composer, Marianne wrote the score for Mike Leigh's "Career Girls." She has written and performed with British jazz musicians, including Jason Rebello, for whom she wrote and recorded four tracks on his album "Keeping Time."

Marianne recently co-starred on the hit ITV drama "Broadchurch," playing a role written especially for her by the show's writer and creator, Chris Chibnall. For seven years she co-starred on "Without a Trace," for which she and her cast were nominated for a SAG Award, and was nominated for an NAACP Award for three years in a row.
